Clonazepam is used to treat certain types of seizures. It is also used to treat panic attacks and any type of anxiety disorder. It is also used for sleep disorders, bipolarity and alcohol withdrawal syndrome.

It belongs to the group of benzodiazepines. And its action is to reduce abnormal electrical activity in the brain.

In high doses it can cause momentary amnesia. It can also cause addiction to the substance.

How is it taken?

It is taken one to three times a day, with or without food. Take it around the same time every day. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

It is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. Its bioavailability is 90%. It has an affinity to proteins of 85%. The elimination of the drug is slow since the active metabolites can remain in the blood for several days or even weeks, with persistent effects. It is absorbed relatively slowly, its bioavailability is 82-98%, its maximum plasma concentration is 3-12 hours. The time to onset of action after oral administration is 20-60 minutes with a duration of action of 6-8 hours in children and up to 12 hours in adults.
